Ludwig Kuyumdjian (born 26 September 1881, Didymoteicho, Greece – date of death unknown) was a lawyer and publicist. He received his primary education at the Aramian School in his birthplace. In 1904, after passing examinations before the judicial commission of Adrianople, he obtained his license to practice law. During the Constitutional Revolution of 1908, he took part in the political struggles of the transitional period and, through his eloquence and under the leadership of the Young Officers, won the admiration of General Commander Nasr Pasha and Governor Ziver Bey. During those revolutionary days, he became a source of pride for the Armenians of Edirne and earned public recognition and praise, even in official publications. In 1908, he enrolled in the Faculty of Law in Constantinople and graduated in 1912, ranking first among his classmates, after which he resumed his legal career. From a young age, he contributed to Puzantion and later to numerous other journals and newspapers. He was elected from Edirne as a member of the Armenian National General Assembly and remained active in that capacity until the end. For many years, he served as legal adviser to the Armenian Patriarchate of Constantinople. Through persistent effort over the years, he succeeded in organizing the extensive registers of Armenian national properties, thereby placing communal assets on a sound and lawful basis. He undertook and successfully completed many national lawsuits which, had they been neglected, threatened to inflict serious losses upon Armenian communal interests. He was a member of various Armenian institutions and bodies, and his colleagues regularly sought his opinions, particularly during later transitional periods. He also served as a member of the Board of Trustees of Wills and as a member of the Vakıf (Foundations) Commission. He authored books on laws and scholarly subjects and published translations. Among his most notable works was a collection of Turkish laws, encompassing all official legal and judicial publications issued in Turkey from 1839 to 1937. This monumental work, the product of more than thirty years of dedicated labor, received recognition even from Atatürk and was praised by distinguished members of the Armenian community and prominent jurists. His extensive handwritten memoirs, written in multiple volumes, are said to be highly interesting and inspiring.Category
