Ottoman Armenian Document #30Scope and Content
To the Honorable Refetlü Şadzâde Ali Raci Efendi, one of the esteemed merchants of Rize, our respected friend,
First of all, I ask about your health and well-being. Secondly, regarding our letter dated November 25, 1324 (December 8, 1908), which we sent via the Samsun route, if you have by now found the bundle of writings we dispatched, I also confirm receipt of your letter dated the 24th. Since I returned from the fair, I have not been able to receive any of your letters.
God willing, the reason is a good one. I hope, my friend, that your trade is going well, for since you remained in Rize, it seems you have separated from your partners there. Hopefully your affairs are in good order. Only, my friend, we hope that by now you have managed to send the money. If you have not, then please send the amount due to me at the first opportunity by the old route, for this year our fair was not continuous. Because of deferred payments, our situation has become somewhat strained.
And as the season draws to a close for us, large payments are approaching. Therefore, dear friend, we kindly ask that you send the amount owed via any available means. If you are short on certain varieties of goods, please inform us.
Dated December 16, 1908 (3 Kanun-ı Evvel 1324),
