Name/Title
Copper Bowl (Kotnetsi Bezigian Parsegh)Description
The inscription on the bowl reads ՔՕԹՆԵՑԻ ՊԵԶԻԿԵԱՆ ԲԱՐՍԵՂ 1876, translated as "Kotnetsi Bezigian Parsegh 1876." Kotni refers to a small village near Hafik, now known as Alçiören. I have traced the family lineage through an obituary for Mkrtich Bezigian, who emigrated to the United States, though the exact connection between Mkrtich and Parsegh remains unclear. According to George Aghjayan, Parsegh is believed to have been born in 1816. The bowl is rare due to its use of a geographic identifier (Kotnetsi), a detail that seems to have been retained by Armenians from Kotni even after emigrating to the U.S., signifying a strong sense of pride in their village. The tin coating suggests the bowl was intended for eating.Ethnography
