First Republic of Armenia banknote (100 Rubles)

Description

Deep green and light orange, 138 x 88 mm. All serial numbers carry the “Ա” prefix followed by six digits, indicating that in all probability 1 million examples of this note were printed. Face: Allegorical doves on a deep green background facing each other appear in the upper left and upper right corners. A light orange ornamental 100 in center, with the twin peaks of Mt. Ararat beneath. The design elements are enclosed in an ornamental framework with columns on either side. Back: An angry eagle with outspread wings holding an upright sword occupies the center of the design. The eagle holds a severed snake in its talon, a perfect revolutionary symbol which encapsulates how the Republic was created. Doves appear in the lower left and right corners. The denomination is written in Armenian above and below the eagle, and in numerals on the right and left sides. The composition is enclosed within an ornamental frame.
