The "Hamazkayin Encyclopedic Almanac" was one of the most widespread and significant Armenian periodical publications of the early twentieth century. It served not merely as a calendar, but as a rich compendium containing encyclopedic, educational, and moral instruction materials. It was published in Constantinople at the Matteosian Printing House. The almanac appeared in two principal formats: a concise edition (Hamarot), consisting of approximately 128 pages, and an expanded edition (Entartsak), which comprised around 320 pages. The earliest known edition is from 1903. In addition to calendrical information, the publication provided concise historical, geographical, and scientific knowledge. It also included prize competitions, riddles, and religious content intended to educate and entertain readers. Over the years, the title of the periodical underwent several changes, appearing under names such as “Expanded Hamazkayin” and “Hamazkayin Expanded Encyclopedic Almanac.” Comprehensive bibliographic and historical information about these almanacs is preserved in the digital repository of the National Library of Armenia, particularly in the study History of Armenian Calendars.
