Armenian Prayer Scroll (Phylactery), 1778 Manuscript on paper with numerous illuminations. The first section is missing; the text begins with the Lamb of God. An inscription in Eastern Armenian records the provenance of the scroll: “This holy relic came to us from my grandfather, Kirakos (1785–1865). It was originally bequeathed to him by his father, Grigor. From Kirakos, it passed to his son Grigor, then to Grigor’s son Avetis, to Avetis’s son Thaddeus, and finally came into my possession. This was written in our old village of Zangezur, but now it is here in Sarukhan.” The signatures appears to be Avetisyan.Category
