Ottoman Armenian Document #54Scope and Content
Ottoman Lira / 47.5
The amount is exactly forty-seven and a half liras.
The reason for the drafting of this deed is as follows:
It was decided that the profits from our flour factory, established under the name "Fabrika-i Cedîd" (The New Factory) at the Ashur-oğlu mill and divided into 146 shares, would be distributed at a rate of two and a half liras per share as of the date September 30, 319 (October 13, 1903).
Accordingly, I have received the sum of forty-seven and a half liras—corresponding to my nineteen shares in the aforementioned factory at two and a half liras each—from the Clerk, Süleyman Efendi, out of the factory’s treasury. This signed document has been issued to be kept in the aforementioned treasury as proof of my receipt of the payment.
Dated: September 30, 319 (October 13, 1903)

“There were also those who came to Hereke so that their craftsmanship could be utilized. One such figure was Mıgırdıç Karatekeyan from Sivas. Mıgırdıç Usta came to Istanbul and presented two Sivaskari prayer rugs to the Sultan, for which he received 5,000 kuruş. He then brought his family with him and relocated to Hereke in order to produce prayer rugs and to teach factory workers how to weave carpets from wool or silk. He was paid 3,000 kuruş to cover his relocation expenses.
Appearing for the first time in the wage registers in July 1893, Mıgırdıç Usta and his family received a total monthly salary of 3,600 kuruş.”Created By
