2100 — Only two thousand one hundred kuruş.
Due to the deportation (tehcir), my shop had been registered in the name of the Treasury of Pious Foundations (Hazine-i Evkaf) and entered into the register accordingly; on this occasion, the registration has been corrected and recorded in my name. I have received from the Tosya Pious Foundations Treasury (Tosya Evkaf Sandığı) the sum of two thousand one hundred kuruş, as stated above, being the rental income (bedel-i icar) for the years 1332 (1916) and 1333 (1917) of my shop.

This document records that Andonyan Hacı Kazaros received 2,100 kuruş in back rent on 7 August 1919 for his shop in Tosya, which had been placed under the Treasury of Pious Foundations (Evkaf) during the Armenian deportations (Tehcir). The shop had originally been registered under Evkaf control because of the deportations, but its registration was later corrected back into his name. The payment covered rental income for the years 1916–1918 (Rumi 1332–1333) and was issued under an official administrative order.
For Ottoman Armenians, 1919 was a period of devastation and uncertainty in the aftermath of the Armenian Genocide and wartime deportations (1915–1917). Survivors were attempting to reclaim confiscated homes, shops, land, and communal properties, often through Ottoman bureaucratic processes. In some places, deportees and refugees slowly returned, while elsewhere local resistance, insecurity, or occupation complicated recovery.
The Ottoman state, under Allied pressure, had begun limited investigations and trials related to wartime deportations and massacres, including the 1919–1920 courts-martial in Istanbul. But enforcement was weak and conditions unstable.Create Date
