General NoteNote
It is possible that the correct surname is “Kalkotourian” rather than “Kambourian,” as the mother of the woman depicted in the accompanying photograph may have belonged to the Kalkotourian family.
The child referenced in the document is identified as Paul Afkerian. Friends of his family had preserved a small box of his photographs, which were later photographed. Paul’s official date of birth is 12 May 1913. He eventually settled in Montélimar, France, where he passed away on 30 January 2004.
Paul’s mother is confirmed to be from the Ebeyan family and to have the first name Mathilde. Mathilde Ebeyan was born on 2 May 1882 in Ankara to Peter and possibly Fermina Seraydarian. There are a Catholic Armenian family.
After becoming a widow, Mathilde arrived in France on 2 August 1924. The matching patronymic suggests that she may have had at least three siblings (see weblinks)—Kevork, Geughmes, and Marie—who resided at 4 Rue du Bagnoir in Marseille. It is plausible that Mathilde initially took up residence with them in this four- to five-storey building.Created By
