In an effort to conserve steel for use in the weapons of war, cast concrete “manhole” covers were used in many wartime construction projects.
This concrete storm drain cover was recovered from the Army Air Base side of the Willow Run Airport in 2011. The airport was tearing down the last of the WWII quartermaster buildings and had pulled this cover up for disposal.Cataloged By
