M1 Helmet Mis-stampEntry/Object ID
2013.24.23Description
This M1 helmet blank began to tear on the second or third draw and was tossed in the scrap pile.
The Hadfield Manganese had to be drawn over a series of successive dies to prevent fractures and stress cracks.
This example shows that the process was not entirely foolproof and sometimes the metal did not want to cooperate.
