This M1 helmet was found in a civil defense storehouse in the mid 1990’s. It is a brand new, un-issued McCord manufactured helmet.
Based on the type of chinstrap and steel lot numbers, this helmet was made in mid-1944, crated up, and put in storage. It still has the paper-stacking separator inside.
All new manufactured WWII helmets were painted with a cork aggregate texture to cut down on glare, but the cork wore off quickly in the field.
Arsenal refinished and post WWII helmets used sand in the paint instead of cork.Cataloged By
