Name/Title

Tunison: Amedee Tunison's 1872 Diary

Entry/Object ID

2005.049.001

Description

Leather-covered, 1872, handwritten Amedee Tunison diary. Amedee was a storekeeper in Millburn, then moved to Montclair, where he became an asst postmaster (see photo in Tunison file, from Montclair's Arcadia book). Book was purchased online from "antiques dealer" Marc Natale; see correspondence in accession envelope. Leather cove is worn, but intact. All cover edges are particularly worn. Inside pages are tight and relatively clean. Front flyleaf has overall foxing and a circular stain on the front cover side. On the opposite side is written in black ink: "Amedee Tunison; Millburn; Essex Cy; N.J." and below that is a (probably later) blue-ink scribble.
