1954 Fallout Shelter sign from Rimback Storage Company building formerly at 161 Spring Street, Millburn NJ. Rimback was demolished in 2011 and this sign was salvaged by Michael Savia of the barber shop next door. In 1954, Millburn barber Michael Savia was a member of the local civil defense volunteers and recalled that in that year Rimback Moving and Storage prepared for nuclear fallout by installing a walk-in refrigerator and freezer in the basement of their building. Sign was damaged in the demolition. The sign appears to have been made galvanized metal and has yellow paint on the top part (that may be reflective). Inside the fallout shelter symbol it notes that the capacity is 150 people. On the right side of the sign there is a piece missing (2" H X 1" W). The sign has a nail hole in each corner, where it was attached to the building. Upper left corner has heavy damage, and the "H" in Shelter has X-shape damage. Considerable, heavy demolition-related damage all over front of the sign. Light overall rusting on the back of the sign.Acquisition
