Scope and Content

The Martels had lived in Millburn from 1917 through the date of the interview. Lucine's father was Gene Moyes Slayton. Slayton came to Millburn in 1914-5 and stayed at Mrs. Tepper's rooming house.After marrying in 1916, he lived in a nearby house on Linden Street near the Wyoming Club. Discusses her house, which was built in 1890, and the Wyoming area with dirt roads and farmland. Discusses going to Wyoming School. Her father was Superintendent of the Wyoming Presbyterian Church Sunday School and President of the the Millburn Board of Education. He was also Township Recorder for 20 years, a judge in Millburn and was instrumental in forming the Millburn Library. Describes recreation in town, skating in Taylor Park, sledding between Wyoming and Ridgewood Road, and winter picnics.
