Two letters regarding women's rights to nominate a female candidate for Board of Education and the nomination process. 1. Handwritten letter from Clifford Willis, District Clerk of the Millburn Township Board of Education addressed March 4, 1915 and addressed to Margaret Marshall is a response to Marshalls letter of March 1, 1915 to E.D. Pannell, President of the Board of Education. Willis responds that the Board does not make nominations or prepare any ballot, except the ballot for appropriations and anyone may have their name placed on the ballot before the next meeting on March 16.
2. Two-page typed response form the New Jersey Assistant Commissioner of Education to Margaret Marshall regarding women's rights to nominate a woman for membership on the Board of Education. Marshall was informed that "as the Constitution prohibits women from voting for members of the Board of Education, taking part in any way in the nominating of candidates for the position would be of doubtful propriety."Acquisition
