Main Street: Antiques Stores at 81 & 83 Main Street, 1971Entry/Object ID
2010.095.001Description
B/W glossy photo of two antiques stores, at 81 Main Street and 83 Main Street in Millburn. The photographer was Robert Peterson, brother of Ellen Morris, who was a hobbyist photographer. According to his sister he had a darkroom where he developed his own photos. He was cleaning out items from his house as he prepared to move around the time of the donation and gave this to Ellen to donate to the society.
At the time the photograph was taken two stores were apparently in the by-then bedraggled Marcantonio building at the corner of Main and Taylor Streets, which had also been the house of Proper Marcantonio. The house and others on the block were demolished in 1978 to put up Plaza North and Plaza South Office Buildings.
In 2018 the site became a parking lot.Acquisition
