Senior Photo of Bob Dunn from St. Benedicts Preparatory School in Newark NJ (Class of 1925). While his middle name was Emmett, the middle initial J. was for his confirmation name, Joseph. A popular boy, known for his sense of humor and funny drawings, "Dunnie" as he was nicknamed, had his first drawings published in the school newspaper, "The Kayrix" and the Telolog yearbook. He signed his works Bob Dunn, which would become his byline ever after. He went on to attend st. Anselm's College, Manchester, New Hampshire. During summers, he drew caricatures of vacationers at Lake Hopatcong for 25 cents each He later spend three years studying at the Arts Students League, attending night classes while working in the daytime. He worked briefly on Wall Street, then as an artist at the Newark Ledger, while freelancing cartoons to national humor magazines, including "Judge" and the original "Life," rapidly building up his portfolio.Collection
