Description

Ham/amateur radio operator postcard purchased on eBay from Dominique D., 1405 Superior Ave. Apt. B, Newport Beach, CA 92663. Card was from Douglas A. Smith to Mr. George W. Gurber, Royersford, PA. Smith's amateur radio number (license?) was W2BZR ("The Voice of Short Hills"). In the 1930 census Douglas A. Smith was 22 years old and lived on Grosvenor Road in Short Hills, with his parents Charles A. and Marjorie K. Smith. Census records indicate that he was born in East Orange in 1907 and was living there in 1910. A 1947 passenger list records him at 174 Summit Avenue in Summit. Military records indicate that he was a lieutenant in the USNR and was apparently a radio operator for them. Single pinhole at the center top of the card, tiny worn spot next to top pinhole on back of card (non-addressee side), similar worn spot on the "H" in "SMITH" at bottom of card, edge wear, single pinhole at center bottom, 1/8" wide x 1/4" long rust-colored deposit on top edge of stamp, postally canceled on Apr. 9, 1930.
