Greystone Cottage was designed by architect Arthur B. Jennings of New York and built in 1880. It is featured in the "Sticks, Shingles & Stones" and the July 12, 1884 issue of American Architect and Building News.
The original owner's name was William R. Bliss. It appears also in the 1880 etching of Short Hills by William A. Bates as "Bliss," the Robinson Atlas from 1881, Van Duyne & Young Map of 1884 and in Architect and Building News (1884).
A reference to William R. Bliss and Greystone appears in the March 1888 issue of "The News Item," at which time there was a celebration for the 93rd birthday of Jeannette Bliss, William Bliss's mother at Greystone Cottage.Acquisition
