Description

Photographs of 431 Parsonage Hill Road from the 1978 David Gibson Historic Sites Survey and New Jersey Historic Preservation Survey Form from the Department of Environmental Protection. The house is a 2-story Colonial clapboard farmhouse erected between 1752 and 1789 by David Morehouse. The property was acquired by his grandson Henry W. Morehouse in c. 1838. In the 1980s, the building was in the process of being restored for use as a family residence. The property is owned by the City of East Orange Water Department and contained various barns that were used to house maintenance equipment for the East Orange Golf Club across the highway. It is called the "Morehouse House," in reference to the Morehouse family that owned the property in the 18th century.
