Scope and Content

Preliminary work on 55 Lakeview Avenue for the 1978 David Gibson Historic Sites Survey. House was never photographed. Built in c. 1924 by Kenneth Dalzell. It was the home of James T. Gordon, who was the president of the John Reilly Company, which manufactured leather. Property was owned by the Security Realty Company in 1912, sold to James & Charlotte Gordon in 1923. Other owners: Walter & Dorothy Barrett (1956), Marcia M. Darlington (1959). The house was featured in the September 9, 1923 Newark Evening Call and was described as a Georgian Colonial style house with brick sides & a shingle front and rear. Lakeview Avenue was part of the Brantwood development.
