Tighe's family arrived in Millburn in 1899. His father worked as a farmer on the Whittingham farm, located on what would become South Mountain Estates. Tighe was born on the property where South Mountain School is today. His father became a policeman and they moved to Blaine Street. He attended st. Rose School from 1905-1915. The five members of his graduating class were: Rudolf Masark, George Doyle, Emma H, Catherine Gallagher, James Tighe. Tighe had a store on the corner of Millburn & Morris Avenue & operated a taxi service from the Short Hills Station.
Describes the transportation: trains and trolley lines, early years at St. Rose of Lima, and the following businesses & individuals: McCullen's General Store, Mundy's groceries, Millburn Hotel Lonergan's Blacksmith Shop, McCullen's Tenement, Barber Shop (present day Bunchers), Tichenor's Blacksmithy, Witkop's Hotel, Gentiles, Albanese's Shop, "Doc" English (lived on a knoll at the corner of Holmes Street and Millburn Avenue), Whittingham's home, Deany family dairy farm.
