Description

Stewart Hartshorn Company color trade card for Hartshorn's shade rollers. On the front of the card a fairy, with wings and a wand, is pointing her wand at people on the ground in front of a brick building with a sign marked "Hartshorn's Shade Rollers."' Two cornucopias spilling roller shades are at the top of the card and three hearts overlap at the top center, between the two cornucopias. On the corner of the brick building, at the first floor level is written "Broome St." on one side of the corner and "Broadway" on the other. On the back of the card is text only, describing the building on the front of the card ], where they claim the facility can produce "more than 2,000,000 rollers this year." The text has at the top right: "486 Broadway; New York, January 1, 1883." On the right edge of the back of the card is red vertical text that notes: "DRY GOODS & UPHOLSTERY" (presumably available at the store that gave out the trade card). Along the bottom of the back of the card is: "SYRACUSE N.Y." The text opens with: "Stewart Hartshorn presents his compliments to the Trade and the Public in the shape of a Calendar for 1883." As there is no calendar on the card, it may have been part of -- or detached from -- a card similar to item #2019.009.001 in this collection. There is very light overall yellowing, particularly visible on the back of the card. Purchased on eBay from John Matyka; 5 Town Road 86; Orford NH 03777.
