Description

Newspaper Clipping from Herman Wehrle scrapbook, "A Farmerette Looks Back to 1918," discussing the Short Hills Unit of the Woman's Land Army of America from 1918. The Woman's Land Army of America (WLAA), later the Woman's Land Army (WLA), was a civilian organization created during the First World War to work in agriculture replacing men called up to the military. Women who worked for the WLAA were sometimes known as farmerettes, a term derived from suffragettes.
