The Baquet InstituteDescription
The Baquet Institute English and French Boarding and Day School for Young Ladies was the first Episcopal Girl's School in Short Hills and one of the original Hartshorn Estate, Inc. properties (Hartshorn House #58). The school was named for Professor Camille Baquet, H.D. and was managed by his daughter, Harriet Stewart Baquet, who taught at Mount Hollay from 1876-1880, before moving to Short Hills in c. 1881. The building was moved from the site of the Gardiner Pattison house, around 1/2 block away. The house may have been moved by Layng (Hartshorn's builder).
