This photograph, taken in 1930, shows R.M.Oakes, School Superintendent , standing in front of what had been the first school at White Oak Ridge. The date the school was built is not presently known, but it is known that one of the early members of the Ross Family attended as far back as 1830. It originally stood where the Gero Park recreation building stands today and in 1889, was moved to the farm of C.H. Reeves for a carpenter shop. The second school at this location was moved down "Poor Farm Lane" and was used for the residents of the poor farm when the 3rd school was built. Mrs. Nellie D. Ross taught in this school The land purchased for the Poor Farm is Gero Park today.Collection
