Description

Series of Letters, receipts and envelopes from A. Ernest Gallant, head of the American Therapeutic Society, and Bonnie Snow. Material relates to Gallant's treatment of both Bonnie and her sister Winifred with a special medical corset. Material dates from 1909-1911. Gallant became a leading authority in the treatment of a condition known as splanchnoptosis, a gastric disorder in women after they reach puberty, which required them to cease engaging in strenuous exercise and be compressed within a special corset. Gallant described the condition and his treatment in a 1902 paper entitled: "The long-waisted woman and her movable kidney."
