Description

Wooldridge Eaglesfield (1777-1858) was born in Leicestershire England to Thomas and . He arrived in Springfield, NJ with his father Thomas, stepmother, brother and sister in 1801. Thomas owned paper mills in Essex county and Ohio Following his death in 1825, Wooldridge took over the mill in Springfield and had 3 daughters with Phoebe Cooper. Caroline married Israel Dodd Condit, Harriet married Elija Smith, and Louisa married William Bonnell. Israel and Elijah bought the paper mill from Wooldridge and manufactured newsprint for newspapers in New York. With the help of Wooldridge, Condit was able to obtain a patent for his machine to manufacture hat-bodies and converted the paper mill to a hat mill. According to an article in the Newark Evening News (1907), Wooldridge Eaglesfield was responsible for the naming of Millburn.
