Hartshorn House # 40. The great stair window epitomizes the picturesque tradition, which is a hallmark of Shingle Style architecture. The picturesque style in architecture derived from and 18th-19th century aesthetic movement in England, which was promoted as an appropriate design for rural settings and featured complex and irregular shapes and forms that were seen to fit in with the natural landscape.
The house, also known as the "Benedict House," served as the Christ Church Parish house 1942-1973.Collection
