Description

Architects Wainright Parish and James Langdon Schroeder make extensive use of "strapwork," and ornament particular to Medieval Revival style. Here it appears over the front entrance. It consists of decorative wood scrollwork that somewhat resembles leather straps and contrasts with the half-timbering of the gable. The carving across the lower portion of the gable is another feature of the style and also can be seen above the entrance of 100 Knollwood. Schroeder was the older brother of Henrietta Schroeder Stout, the wife of Charles H. Stout, for whom the house was built.
