Stella Worth Jones Vorhees Photographic Portrait by Shepherdson Studios, Ell Pond, Melrose. This photograph was taken, when Stella Worth Jones was 29 years old, four years before she married John Vorhees. Stella Worth Jones Vorhees (1888-1976). An early crusader for women's suffrage and advocate for social reform, Stella Vorhees also served as the director of women's work in the Americanization Bureau of the State Department of Public Instruction in the early 1920s. She put her years in public service to work in Millburn, becoming one of the earliest women to serve on Millburn Board of Education, where she was instrumental in raising the standards of public education in the district.
