Kahn Collection: Tin Six-candle MoldEntry/Object ID
1976.014.014Description
Tin six-candle mold with a single handle attached at the top, from the Williamsburg Room, Millburn Library. Provenance unknown (possibly M/M Harvey Kahn). Possibly 18th century.
Candle molds such as this were common in 18th and 19th century American homes, enabling multiple candles of uniform size to be produced simultaneously. Candles were the primary form of illumination in homes, public buildings, and streets until gas and kerosene lamps replaced them in the 1820s and 1850s respectively.Collection
