Description

Property now part of Shady Nook Picnic area and old Deer Paddock where Brookside now crosses South Orange Avenue (NE Corner) in South Mountain Reservation. William Frisby was born in England in c. 1793 and emigrated to the United States with his wife Rebecca Ely Frisby in 1822. A tailor by trade, he settled in Williamsburg, Brooklyn and established a lucrative clothing manufacturing business, before settling in Millburn Township in the 1850s. The Frisby's had 4 children: Mary Ann, Emeline (Mrs. Peter Shapter), Sarah (d. November 3, 1912) and Rebecca (later Mrs. William Shapter). William Frisby died in 1880.
