Postally unused black and white photographic postcard of David J. Mundy's store in Millburn at 346 Millburn Ave. Located on Northeast Corner of Millburn Ave Main Street. First listed in the 1892 Baldwin Business Directory as "Munday" groceries and dry goods. From left to right in the photo are David Mundy and Joseph (Joe) Cohen (white coat). Figures are identified in blue ink on the front of the postcard. It also reads: "Now Kaiser's Drugstore."
In an undated, later listing, the store is listed as having: Dry Goods and Notions, Fancy and Staple Groceries, Hardware, Crocker, &c.
According to his obituary, David Mundy took over grocery store known as Polhemus and Roberts" at Main and Millburn Avenue in the early 1880s. The store became Roberts and Mundy and, starting in 1884, was known simply as D.J. Mundy. In the 1890s, he made his former clerk Charles E. Van Fleet a partner. Charles E. Van Fleet would go on to become a member of the Township Committee, tax collector and also opened his own grocery store on Main Street.Collection
