Official correspondence from the office of the Governor of Georgia Edward Telfair. Dated February 13, 1786 and signed by Secretary of State, John Milton. The letter appoints Esquire Justus Hartman Scheuber to the rank of Notary and Tabellion for the state. In 1785, Georgia had passed a law requiring that deeds be recorded in the county where the property was located. It is believed this rank allowed him to certify land deeds.
