Description

This apron was donated by local resident, Sheila Rucker Pennebaker, worn by among others, her grandmother Bryd (Broadwell) Rucker, Byrd’s sisters and subsequent generations while in the care of Sheila. The Rucker and Broadwell families are among early founders of Crabapple, c 1830’s. This is 100% cotton with period fabric from the 1940’s. The backing and ivory band on the front is made from a flour sack. Sheila has a large collection of her mother’s aprons. The Society is pleased to have these two above kindly donated to our permanent collection. Sheila has continued to use her collection over the years, teaching cooking classes to her grandchildren and friends, allowing students to choose an apron from her mother’s collection to wear.
