Description

A list of the State's Defenders: Officers and Men, Soldiers and Sailers; Partisans and Regulars: Whether Enlisted from Georgia or Settled in Georgia after the close of hostilities. Even though Georgia did not furnish a large body of troops to the Revolutionary struggle, it did acquire a vast number of veterans filing for bounty land grants from other states. The reason for this is that it was the youngest of the English colonies with vast amounts of land but a scant population, located on the remote southern frontier. These bounty grants were issued after the war as payment for service rendered and to promote settlement in this the youngest of the colonies. Contains approx. 9000 names.
