Job Maseko was a Springs war hero that sank a German freighter on his own at Tobruk, North Africa, whilst in a POW camp. Using an improvised explosive device made over weeks from black powder taken from ammunition he stole from the germans, he managed to insert the device onto a loaded freighter and sink it. He was awarded the SADF Bravery medal months later in italy for his actions.
