Description

Uniform - 1 Parachute Battalion. Tiko Brink was one of the fifteen original SADF personnel who travelled to RAF Abington, England, to receive Parachute instructor training. They then returned to South Africa to form 1 Parachute Battalion at Tempe in April 1961. On the 7th September 1961, Tiko had the honour of being the first person ever to do a parachute jump over the Cape Peninsula. As an instructor, Tiko was very successful and was credited with implementing a training technique utilising a 30kg Concrete Marble. Troops were required to do a 10km run whilst carrying it. These are commonly called "Tiko Marbles"
