“Turkey Tracks” pattern
The dazzling effect of the radiating (op art) tables is enhanced by the highly contrasting
use of a very dark indigo dyed wool weft on a bleached white warp of cotton. The
pattern name is called “Turkey Tracks” due to radiating lines curving from the central
block point. The vertical and horizontal lines at the edges define the table.
This example was found in Frankford, Hastings County in a shop. The dealer had
purchased in the area south of Belleville towards Trenton. This is close to Brighton,
Northumberland County where the ROM example #254 was found. This suggests that
both were woven by the same unidentified weaver in the counties [illegible] area.
There is another variation of Turkey Tracks from Spencerville, Leeds Co. in the
collection.
Condition: Very good – Excellent. Little evidence of use over time. A strong centre seam
(the pattern makes it challenging when joined). Minor loss top centre seam.
Source: Frankford, Hasting County antique shop just north of Belleville c. 2010.
Dimensions: 78” (198 cm) l. x 59” (150 cm) w.
