Description

Ladies yellow leather, right-hand, elbow-length glove. Two brown plastic-covered metal snaps. Wrist inscribed on the outside "BACMO MAKE BLMO"; on the inside "F CO U.S.A." Brown stitching on back of hand. Stamped inside of arm "IS SS" "7486". Located in Gloversville, NY, Bacmo was one of over 200 that once operated in the city and gave the city its namesake and reputation as the "glove capital of the world." The city was an industrial hub in Fulton county providing employment for thousands in the region in the tanner and glove trades after an growth in the trade that lasted from 1910-1970. The company history includes being one of several factories that was involved in the Glove Cutters Strike in 1914. In 2017, only a handful of companies remain in the city.
