five page hand written deed of bargain and seal between Henry Stafford and Thomas Milne for potentially a property on Mill St. The pages were originally folded in four. On the back of page five contains handwritten text " Almonte, 2734, Deed of Bargain and Sale between Henry Stafford and Thomas R. Miller" and then at the bottom of the page directly below that '" 14 Feb 1878, 132, 1050 AM, McDonald and ? ?. To the right of this is a stamp noting the document was entered and registered at the County of Lanark . Also on this page is the embossed seal the North Lanark Registry Office which showcases a beaver. Transcription of artifact is as follows: [starting on page e] This Indenture made the seventeenth day of January in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and seventy eight in pursuance of the act respecting short forms of conveyances Between Henry Stafford of the village of Almonte in the County of Lanark and province of Ontario Gentleman of the first part Mary Stafford wife of the said party of the first part of the second part and Thomas R. White of the same place Ironsmith of the third part Witnesseth that in consideration of seven hundred dollars of lawful money of Canada now paid by the said party of the third part w the said party of the first part the receipt whereof is hereby by him acknowledged he the said party of the first part doth grant unto the said party of the third part his heirs and assigns forever all and singular that certain parcel or tract of land and premises situate lying and being in the village of Almonte in the County of Lanark and province of Ontario containing by admeasurement two thousand four hundred and seventy five sware feet be the same more or less being composed of a part of town lots numbers nine on the south side of Mill Street and twenty six and thirty four in the Biard section as laid down and marked on Bell’s general (Municipal) plan of the town filed in the Registry office of the North Riding of the County of Lanark the 12th day of november AD 1870 and which may be known and described as follows that is to say: Commencing on the south side of Mill Street at the distance of five feet (measured westerly along the street from the limit between lots eighteen and nine. Thence westerly along the south side of Mill street twenty two feet and six inches to an iron bolt placed in the sidewalk. Thence southerly [the following is written on page d] Parallel to the sidelines of lot number nine one hundred and ten feet to an iron bolt placed in the ground at the distance of ten feet southerly from the rear [spelling uncertain] foundary of the said lot number nine thence Easterly parallel to Mill street seventy two feet and six inches to another iron bolt placed in the ground. Thence northerly parallel to the sideline of lot number nine one hundred and ten feet to the place of beginning: together with the full and uninterrupted use liberty and privilege of a certain entrance or right of way hereinafter mentioned with free ingress egress and regress to and for the said party of the third part his heirs and assigns and his and their tenants and under tenants with carts vehicles carriages horses or cattle as by him or them shall be necessary and convenient at all times and seasons forever into along upon and out of the said entrance or right of way in common with the said party of the first part his heirs and assigns and his and their tenants and undertenants which said entrance or right of way may be better known and described as follows: That is to say being composed of a part of lots numbers eight on the south side of mill street and thirty four and seventy six in the Baird section as laid down on the said plan containing by admeasurement two thousand three hundred and seventy square feet be the same more or less: commencing on the south side of mill street where an iron bolt has been placed in the ground at the point of the said lot number eight at the distance of twenty two feet and six inches measured westerly along the south side of Mill Street from another iron bolt placed in the ground in the limit between lots numbers seven and eight. Thence westerly along the South side of Mill street ten [the following is written on page c] Feet to another iron bolt placed in the ground Thence southerly parallel to the sidelines of the said lot number eight Eighty seven feet and nine inches to another iron bolt placed in the ground. Thence South westerly deviating twenty nine degrees and forty minutes from the course of the last mentioned limit twenty five feet and six inches to another iron bolt. Thence westerly parallel to Mill street and keeping always ten feet distant southerly from the rear limit of lots numbers eight and nine sixty four feet and nine inches to the continuation southerly of the limit between lots numbers nine and ten. Thence southerly on a line which is the continuation of the limit between lots numbers nine and ten twenty feet to another iron bolt. Thence Easterly parallel to Mill street fifty four feet and nine inches be it more or less to Alexander McLeans’ land where another iron bolt has been placed in the ground thence north Easterly along the west boundary of the said Alexander McLeans’ land thirty four feet to the limit which is the boundary between [“between” is crossed out] lots numbers eight and thirty four. Thence Easterly along that limit five feet and ten inches be it more or less to [“another” is crossed out] iron bolt distant twenty two feet and six inches westerly on said limit from the boundary between lots numbers seven and eight. Thence Northerly parallel to the sidelines of lot number Eight one hundred feet to the place of beginning. To have and to hold unto the said party of the third part his heirs and assigns to and for his and their sole and only use forever subject [“howsoever” is crossed out] nevertheless to the reservations limitations provisoes and conditions expressed in the original grant thereof from the Crown. The said party of the first part covenants with the said party of the third part that he hath the [the following is written on page b] Right to convey the said land to the said party of the third part notwithstanding any act of the said party of the first part and That he the said party of the third part shall have quiet possession of the said land free from all encumbrances and that the said party of the first will execute such further assurances of the said land as may be requisite and that the said party of the first part hath done no act to encumber the said land and the said party of the first part releases to the said party of the third part all his claims upon the said land. And the said Mary Stafford wife of the said party of the first part hereby bars her dower in the said lands. In witness whereof the said parties hereto have hereunto set their hands and seals the day and year first above written in duplicate.
