MAY IT PLEASE YOUR EXCELLENCY,-
On behalf of our citizens it gives us great pleasure to have the honour of welcoming you on the occasion of this your first visit to the Town of Almonte. Had circumstances permitted we would have been glad of the opportunity to tender you a reception befitting your position as the representative of Her Most Gracious Majesty the Queen, but we will have to forego that pleasure, trusting that we may enjoy it before your term of office expires.
We avail ourselves of this propitious occasion to express to Your Excellency our devoted loyalty and attachment to the person and government of our most gracious Sovereign, and to declare our humble but fervor admiration of her wisdom, moderation and justice as our ruler. Her name is revered throughout the world and her example will ever be cherished as precious inheritance by her subjects everywhere.
The responsible positions your Excellency has filled with so much credit to yourself in the past assures us that the energy and ability which have characterized your administration in other parts of the Empire will justify the choice made in selecting you to fill the important office of Governor-General of this, the greatest of the British colonies. We sincerely hope the sojourn of your Excellency and Lady Stanley and family in Canada may be an exceedingly happy one and we feel that the liberal and enlightened views which you have already so frequently given evidence of possessing cannot fail to be of great benefit to the Dominion, Here in Canada it is of vital importance that we should strive will all our might to unite together in harmony and peace and drive from amongst

We hope that under your administration we may be able to improve and increase our manufacturing industries, give commerce greater extensions and open new spheres of employment.
We trust your visit to this Town may be a source of pleasure to you, that you may leave Almonte impressed with the importance of its manufactories and that you may retain pleasant recollections of the short time spent amongst us.
Signed on behalf of the Corporation and citizens.
