Label from New Brunswick Tartan. Label reads "Made by J.A. Humphrey & Son Ltd, Moncton, N.B. / Pure Wool, Dress Goods / Under License for Loomcrofters Gagetown N.B.
J. A. Humphrey was a businessman making his fortune in the textile industry and was one of the wealthiest people in Canada at the time of his death in 1895. He had also served four terms in the New Brunswick Legislature. The area of Moncton where he and his family lived is still known as Humphreys Mills. In 1996, the John A. Humphrey Residence was designated a Heritage Property through the City of Moncton.
