A black and white photograph depicting the Victoria Woollen Mill. There is no date given, so the photo was taken sometime between its construction in 1857 and its destruction in 1910. The mill, a brick building with three rows of windows, is the focus of the image. In the foreground, piles of timber and a timber slide are visible. Some part of another building is visible to the far right of the image, partially obscured by the main building of the mill. To the left of the image the Mississippi River is visible. There are some trees and a light-coloured building visible in the background of the image.
The image is very over-exposed, making the details of the right and left sides of the image very difficult to discern. There is also a dark smudging effect over the mill in the image; whether this is part of the original image or damage obtained over time is unknown. There is white/light gray space on the left, right, and top of the photograph, and the entire image is surrounded by a thin white border.
On the back of the photograph, "I17" is written in the top-left corner in pencil. At the top of the photograph, in the centre, ""1-15" is written in black ink. In the centre of the photograph, there are four notes written in blue ink, reading "-First mill building of B.W. Rosamond Woollen Co -Wood for boiler out front -Timber slide to left -Destroyed by fire 1910." Below this, in very faint pencil, the phrase "K.W. Johnson Collection" is written. In the bottom-left corner of the photograph, the accession number is written in pencil.Collection
