Contemporary art piece by Lynda Conin ca 2010. Photograph was from the internet.
In 2010 this piece was displayed at the Oeno Gallery, their artist description is as follows:
About the Work
A rectangular aluminum frame planted in the ground contains the cut out figure of a woman in a long dress designed with arabesques, bird, vines, leaves and roots. The frame and figure are powder coated in antique blue except for the area of the upper body where roots, like a spine and nerves, are in crimson. The unsmiling woman stands resolute in the garden, literally, one arm akimbo and looks knowingly at the viewer over her shoulder. Reminiscent of an antique photo, the image is a haunting reminder of those who came before in this place. Storytelling is integral to Cronin's work, articulating space through the lens of history. Cronin was born in Ireland but has lived in Canada for many years. Studied at the National College of Art and Design and Dunlaoghaire College of Art in Dublin. Cronin received a BFA from the University of Ottawa in 1983 and a BA in the Theory and History of Art in 1986. Commissioned work in Canada includes the National Arts Center, City of Aylmer, City of Ottawa, Canadian Hearing Society and the GJ Armstrong Building. Her work is in the collections of the National Library of Canada and numerous private collections. Cronin has received awards from the Trillium Foundation, Irish Arts Council and Canada Council.
