Description

Unknown weaver from Welland County, 1845 Tied double cloth coverlet. Deep indigo wool on natural white cotton ground. Created by a weaver from Welland County who's name is unknown. There are other coverlets beleived to have been created by the same weaver including one in the collection of the Royal Ontario Museum. The "four roses" pattern was common among "German weavers of the Mennonite community" and likely originated in Pennsylvania.
