"This is a very interesting coverlet attributed to weaver Edward Graf of Gasline, Humberstone Township, Welland County. It is woven on a wide full width loom he acquired in 1868.
The central motif utilizes the popular Double Rose in octogonal boxes frequently selected wedding coverlets. No identifying cartouches are included and the bottom corners use a rosette surrounded by spiralling waves. (Not seen in other Graf coverlets)
The borders are especially interesting since he has incorporated the double tulips and heart motifs seen originally in Wilhelm Armbrusts coverlets of the 1830s and 1840s. It is known that Graf had purchased Armbrust's loom(s) and jacquard equipment when Armbrust ceased weaving in 1848.Collection
