Description

Aaron Zelner, 1855 Bands of red, brown and black wool on a natural white cotton ground. This handmade coverlet is attributed to Aarron Zelner. It has no identifying cartouche but it matches Zelner's style. Aaron Zelner was born in 1812 and came to Canada in 1845. He moved from Cayuga to Waterloo County in 1855 and stopped weaving around 1868. He died in 1893. Zelner was a mentor of John Noll who continued weaving with Zelners looms, patterns and equipment. The coverlet features bands of red, brown and black bands on a natural white cotton ground.
